Google has updated its iconic ‘G’ logo for the first time in almost a decade. The new logo keeps in the G in the same Product Sans format that we have grown accustomed to, but makes significant changes with how the colours are portrayed.
Instead of the four solid colours (red, yellow, green, blue) on the old logo, the new logo employs a gradient design which makes the colours flor more organically while also adding depth and polish. The colour distribution and gradient blending also makes the new logo appear more balanced.
The new Google logo has already been rolled out to the Google iOS app as part of an update on Sunday. Meanwhile, a similar update on the Google 16.8 beta app added the new colours to the iconic G logo on Android, as per 9to5Google.
The tech giant hasn’t yet revealed if the new logo update will also carry on the six-letter logo. Google also hasn’t confirmed if the new logo will proceed to its other apps like Chrome or Maps.
We don’t have the official explanation for why the new Google logo has been changed yet but it seems like the tech giant wants to create a seaparate brand image for itself in any era where most of its products have now been integrated with AI.
Google’s Gemini chatbot has also come a long way from being a knee-jerk reaction to Chatgpt to now being among the leading options for users, especially after the latest Gemini 2.5 Pro update. Google Search alredy uses Gemini to provide AI overviews to users and similar Gemini features are also available on Gmail, Calendar, Docs, Drive, Keep, and Tasks.
The last update to the Google logo was in 2015 when the comany designed to signal a broader shift just being a desktop search engine into a brand that offers a variety of plaforms across devices and especially mobile phones.
Google shifted the typeface then from serif to san-seriff and changed the lowercase white ‘g’ on a blue background to a circualr logo with the four colurs.
