Walkers is the largest crisp production plant in the world, producing over 11 million bags of crisps per day in its flagship Leicester factory.

The brand uses about 800 tons of potatoes every day, but its offering of savoury snacks extends beyond spuds.

In 2018, Walkers launched a nuts-based Streetmix lineup under its Sensations variety, drawing inspiration from the global street food scene.

The snacks were available in three varieties: Mexico City, Mumbai, and Bangkok.

But now the crisp giant has apologised to fans of the snack bags after pulling them from shop shelves.

Upon the introduction of the nutty snacks, Walkers Sensations brand manager Tegan Philp-Hines expressed excitement about the potential of the range.

However, Walkers has now confirmed that “they were not as popular as [they’d] hoped”. It comes after a fan called out the crisp manufacturer on X just days ago, writing: “@walkers_crisps have you discontinued the sensation street mix?”

The snacks came in three varieties: Mexico City, which was tortilla sticks, Mexican-style nuts, beans, and chilli crackers; Mumbai, Indian-style crackers, curried nuts, black pepper rice sticks and spiced onion nuts; and Bangkok; sweet chilli crackers, coconut flakes, cashews and pea snaps.

The products were popular among snack lovers, as many took to X, formerly Twitter, to share their thoughts on them.

One person wrote: “Today’s creation… Really easy slow cooker satay chicken. Bag of frozen chicken, a can of coconut milk, half jar of peanut butter, squirt of chilli paste, two chopped onions, squirt of light soy sauce served with brown rice, and a sprinkle of @walkers_crisps Bangkok Streetmix Sensations.”

Another chimed: “I am obsessed with these [Mumbai Sensations Streetmix] – does anyone else share my love for Sensations Streetmix? Indian-style crackers, curried nuts, black pepper rice sticks and spiced onion nuts.”

Some snackers didn’t rate them as highly however, with one person claiming: “Spoiler alert: I have now tried both the Mumbai and the Bangkok varieties of new Walkers Sensation Streetmix and they are both hugely disappointing. One star out of five.”

While Walkers regularly introduces new flavours and ranges, discontinuing them is not unheard of.

The news of the Sensations Streetmix being axed follows the company’s decision to discontinue its Worcestershire Sauce flavour crisps in November.

Walkers broke the news in June 2022, though some fans have only just realised. The crisp brand wrote on X: “We’re sorry to break the news, but we’ve stopped producing our Sensations Streetmix range…”
