Winter feels like it’s truly arrived and unfortunately, it’s brought dark nights and colder weather with it.

But while the UK might feel dark and dreary, that certainly isn’t the case across the whole of Europe.

Limassol, a pretty port city on Cyprus’ southern coast, can reach temperatures of 20 degrees in December.

Even better it’s under a five-hour flight away from the UK with plenty of budget options available.

So what is there to do in Limassol?

The city’s top-rated attraction is the ancient Greek city-state of Kourion which was first built in the twelfth century BCE.

Tourist ‘David P’ wrote: “Not a site to miss when in Limassol. It really is a magical site where you’re able to roam almost at will unlike many other Roman sites I’ve visited around Europe.”

Another visitor ‘sue f’ said: “Fascinating place with amazing sites well preserved. They show a lot of what life was like including the thermal baths which are almost intact.”

Tourists can also wander along the city’s promenade which has fantastic sea views and is the perfect spot to soak up some winter sun.

The city’s marina is the ideal place to check out some of Europe’s fanciest yachts or tourists can grab a drink at the city’s Old Port.

Not far outside Kourion, tourists will find the Temple of Apollo Hylates, which is still partly intact.
